Tess has over 13 years post-qualification experience gained both in private practice and in house, specialising in commercial law and intellectual property law. She recently managed an international team of lawyers at LexisNexis (part of the Reed Elsevier group) covering over 15 territories worldwide, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany and South Africa, and has an extensive network of international lawyers around the world. Her in house experience also enabled her to gain broad experience across a number of other specialist areas such as data protection and regulatory/compliance work.
Tess has worked with a large variety of organisations, from start ups to large PLCs, encompassing a broad spectrum of industries. She has worked with online retailers and information providers; publishers and entertainment companies such as Lucasfilm and Paramount Pictures; and household brands such as National Trust, Cosmopolitan, Mercedes Benz, and Jeep. Her work includes providing advice on and negotiating various deals and agreements, as well as drafting templates and reviewing and updating clients’ existing documents. She has worked on agreements including software development and maintenance, content licensing, merchandising agreements, publishing agreements, sponsorship deals, joint ventures and confidentiality agreements. She has also dealt with a number of disposals and acquisitions, both pre- and post-disposal/acquisition, from heads of terms and due diligence through to disclosure letters, assignments and novation agreements.
Her 9 year in-house tenure at a large plc, in addition to a period with a medium-sized entrepreneurial brand extension and entertainment licensing agency, means that Tess has worked with all areas of a business, from management to sales, marketing, finance and product development to HR. Tess can quickly grasp clients’ business issues and is well aware of the need to provide practical, commercial and cost effective legal solutions to clients working in accordance with their time frames.
